Mother's Day Weekend / Aaron's 27th Birthday

Sunday was both Mother's Day and Aaron's birthday. We started celebrating on Saturday by spending the day down at Mom and Dad's (the Rushos) and having a delicious meal that mom made. Amity did extremely well on the way down but has developed quite the distaste for stoplights. In fact, she'd peacefully exist without them, but as we neared a red light, it was almost as if she sensed it internally and with her eyes closed, the look of disdain began, resulting shortly in cries of anguish. The minute we were back in drive mode, she was back in a trance. It was a great visit and we were happy that Amity made it alright with only a few, minor hiccups for the 3 hour drive round-trip.

On Sunday, we spent the day just the three of us. Aaron got going early and headed to Atlas to drum for the morning service. Amity and I lounged around for a bit, and eventually got ourselves ready to.

The service at Atlas was refreshing and beautiful and reminded me of how thankful I am to be engulfed in a community of wonderful people. I often find myself thinking aloud with Aaron how awesome it is that two of our closest friends from Atlas live just a mere 5 blocks down our street and we are always running into someone we know and adore at Margie's on any given Saturday morning, or weekday morning when it's summer. Sigh. It's wonderful.

After church we started a tradition of breakfast at The Egg & I. Amity slept through the entire meal and was adored by every waitress who passed by, loving stating how beautiful they think she is. We agree. She is quite stunning!

For the afternoon, we took it easy, and went to satisfy our sweet tooth, with our good friend Maurice, at JB's. Aaron talked all things techy and nerd-like with Maurice while Ami and I listened and she cooed with response. I'm sure she understood everything, just was unable to communicate effectively. Clearly, her mind is always on physics. Just look at the pensive eyebrows!

Finally, my favorite part of the day was spent napping with her. We slept for nearly 3 hours all snuggled in bed and cuddled. It was nothing short of perfection and the best gift a new mommy could ever ask for!

Last night we completed the celebrations by driving down to visit Mom and Dad (the Poppengers) in Thornton and hanging out on the porch all night. Grandma Pop and Mandy hung out too and were delighted to see all of Ami's new smiley faces. She laid on the floor and shared secrets with them all night long. It was great and really special to watch.

Jay cooked fantastic grub, like always, of fresh fish tacos, homemade guac, and pico de gallo. Sitting by the new chiminea with warm flames, talking about Ami and how much fun kids are when they're growing up, reminiscing of when Aaron and his sisters were little, made me long for summer nights, when the clock is not an issue and we can continue conversation like that for as long as we'd like.

Now the countdown is on. Only one Monday left of school for me, and I'll be officially all moved out next Friday. Let the summer begin and bring with it adventure and joy. If it's anything like the teaser we've had these last couple of weeks, I can't wait!
